How Hosting a Pilates Teacher Training Program Transformed Rewind Pilates

Meet Teresa Julian!

Teresa is the owner of Rewind Pilates, a thriving Pilates studio in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Rewind Pilates is a host studio for the Pilates Encyclopedia Teacher Training Program, which empowers her to train and develop instructors from within — solving one of the biggest challenges studio owners face: finding and keeping high-quality teachers

A former accountant, Teresa has been teaching movement for 44 years. She earned her first Pilates certification in 2007 and ran a home studio for 15 years before expanding into a 2,000-square-foot commercial space three years ago. Her studio is equipped with three reformers, two Cadillacs, and four chairs, creating the perfect environment for both personalized instruction and professional development.

Her business model prioritizes private sessions, duets, and trios over large group classes to ensure personalized attention and deeper client connections. That same focus on quality instruction led her to bring Pilates teacher training in-house.

Why She Chose PE for In-House Pilates Teacher Training

Like many studio owners, Teresa saw the growing demand for high-quality Pilates instructors. But instead of struggling to recruit externally, she decided to develop teachers from within by becoming a host studio for Pilates teacher training through Pilates Encyclopedia.

Here's why it worked:

âś… Prepares teachers in a real-world setting — Her trainees gain hands-on experience with real clients, observation hours, and mentorship . . . all within her studio’s culture.
âś… Eliminates hiring struggles — Instead of searching for instructors who fit her studio’s standards, she’s shaping them herself.
âś… Creates an additional revenue stream — Pilates teacher training brings in extra income while ensuring the long-term sustainability of her business.
âś… Builds a strong, supportive team — Trainees develop within a non-competitive, mentorship-driven environment, leading to better studio culture and retention.
âś… Removes the need for extensive travel — Local training means aspiring instructors don’t have to leave town to get certified.

Now, Teresa has five teacher trainees growing within her studio — learning, teaching, and becoming part of a thriving Pilates community.
